I’m not against sweet treats for special occasions, but the ingredients of most candy is down right scary! Besides sugar, they often contain GMO corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, food additives and food coloring. Besides the detrimental health effects of food coloring, they can send some children off the wall. Because children are growing and developing their bodies, they are more susceptible to the negative effects of these “foods”. Studies have shown that sugar consumption reduces memory and learning in kids as well as impacts neurotransmitters that keep their moods stable. Sugar reduces the effectiveness of our immune system, which is why colds and illnesses often follow sugar holidays. Try increasing vitamin C to combat the effects of extra sugar and be sure the children have real food before treats. For sensitive children and those with Diabetes try the “Switch Witch”.
